Book I have completed this week: Grit by Angela Duckworth

This book is one I’d recommend anyone to read. Just as foundational as The Compound Effect, Grit actually talks about the research in consistent action and learning to push through barriers. To reflect on a quote by Eric Thomas referencing Grit: ” you don’t have to be smarter than the Summa Cum Laude and the Magna Cum Laude, you just have to get up earlier than them.” Putting in more consistent hard work has shown to allow people to outperform the more talented and gifted individuals whom are not putting in the consistent hard work. Those who are elite in their field are known to have more grit and study, practice, put in effort more consistently and for longer time blocks than their counterparts.
Grit Score: 4.6/5 Which puts me at 90-95 percentile.
To find out your grit scale you can find out from Angela Duckworth’s questionnaire on her website: Grit Scale
Photo that I have enjoyed:
My interpretation of this photo is that every life will continue to throw challenges our way as long as we are alive. If we neglect signs through out our day to day, we quickly become laggards.

Experience I have enjoyed: On the road again….
With spring weather back, it was great to get back outside and ride 20 miles on road bikes. With new tires on the road bike and new goals for the season. I look forward to some productive training rides to take my strength and skill set to the next level. Typically I take pride in my wife and I completing the 300 mile fundraising ride (WAM) for Make A Wish Foundation Michigan. This year we will not be doing this fundraiser but look forward to making big strides to give back this year in other ways and many years back with Make A Wish Michigan in 2022.

Quote that was applicable: “Be kind to unkind people, they need it the most”
It is difficult to eliminate emotional reactions, this is apart of daily intentions when going throughout my day. As we all encounter individuals whom are more irritable, irrational, and unpleasant towards us, it is important to not identify with that persons internal perspective. I have found if you give benefit of the doubt to those whom seem angry one of two things will occur: 1) They will turn out to be great individuals in difficult situations and unintentionally reacted emotional to the next person they see (you). 2) They continue to be irrational and unpleasant towards others despite honest attempts to assume good in them. Continue to go about your day, as you should not take council or advice from someone unworthy of being a critic of your life.
Just recently I had a random person message me out of anger about something I have no relation to. Although I do not know where this attitude came from but I did wish this person to have a better day and hopes that they figure out any challenges they may be having. Knowing this person has no idea who I am or my intentions to serve others, it would only fit my life narrative to give them the opportunity to see I am not their enemy in any aspect of their life.

Things to look forward to: The weather is changing and spring is upon us.
This means we get to spend more time out doors and hopefully give businesses a chance to rebound with outdoor services. Getting back out and bike riding, running, and enjoying exploration with my dog London. She had gone as far as 6 miles with me during a jog with rest, water, and snack breaks. A typical “jog with the dog” is between 2-3 miles, which seems to make her the happiest dog in the world.
Thank you for reading! Please share if this is something you have found any of this information interesting, entertaining, or useful. Have a remarkable day!
