Although we cannot control some things in our life, do have power over how we live our life today…
Bruce Willis publicly diagnosed with (dementia), Jeff Bridges (lymphoma), Michael J Fox ( parkinson’s), Kristen Bell (depression and anxiety).
Michael J Fox once said: “I have a wheelchair that I use every now and then and it still sucks. I have a hard time getting to a restaurant and up the stairs to where my family’s eating perhaps at a dinner. But then I’m there with my son and my three daughters and my wife, and friends of ours. And it’s just like, that’s great.”
Kristen Bell once said “Everyone’s human. Everyone has problems. Everyone feels yucky on the inside sometimes. You deserve to feel just as beautiful on the days you wear no makeup, and the days you don’t shower, and the days you feel like you’re depressed.”
I applaud these individuals for having strength to speak about their challenges in a public eye. In turn creating awareness. Despite all that these individuals have accomplished in the eyes of the public, the wealth and fame acquired. They continue to battle physical and mental diseases and disorders, that wealth and fame cannot necessarily solve.
I have the pleasure of making a difference in hundreds of lives weekly with direct contact care and communication. I work with those living in near financial poverty and homeless, and I’ve worked with multimillionaires. I have the opportunity to listen to them speak and share their stories and life experiences. I have noticed a trend and received advice from countless individuals. We all age and change physiologically, despite the fact that we are acknowledging this each and every day. As we age, our bodies perhaps becoming less capable of things we were once able to accomplish in our 20’s, especially if we discontinued ideal physical activities.
As the saying goes: “The best time to start was yesterday but the second best time is today. ” Despite what once might think, there is no cure for aging. As our bodies change, our friends change, and our families change around us. We can easily lose a sense of what should be an essential priority. Our youth and capability to enjoy the world and life provided for us being a great place to start. Our physical health being another. Like many things, we do not appreciate something until it’s gone, our physical ability to enjoy day to day activities, the ability to walk up stairs, sleep in a bed, reach to hug family members, stand from a chair, drive in a car, our ability to do much more than being bound to the living space we live in with reliance on others to chauffeur us from appointment to appointment. Losing autonomy of our life and requiring heavy reliance on others around us.
