4AM-Waking Moment Thoughts

4AM is dark, cold, and quiet.

You’re tired, cozy in bed, the dog might notice you’re awake and pin you down for pets. You roll out of bed with the cold hardwood floors, seemingly matching the thermometers temperature of 55 degrees.

Socks, sweat pants, hoodie… in the dark attempting to mitigate noise pollution for those around me. The creek of an opening door followed by scampering and sprinting of the dogs as they make their way to the back door to go wrestle outside, chase anything in the yard, and “go to the bathroom”. This is where you can appreciate your last nights self for pre-setting the coffee maker, or resent yourself for being so neglectful to your future self. The pour could never seem to be enough, as the eyes attempt to adapt to the dimmest of light in the room. Sitting down with the journal in hand, prompts pre-thought out.

I see: Water ___ Reading____ Workout_____ Energy_____ Hours sleep_____

This is all at the top of a page. I check off the water as I downed that waiting for the coffee maker to work its magic. Energy appears to be consistent with the hours of sleep, which regardless does not change the fact that there is still 2+ hours before the sun rises. I let the dogs back in and sit down to read, this is where one dog sprints to the basement assuming its breakfast time, the other waiting and watching for my next move. I make it to the couch to read, she’s on my lap insisting pets. Thus turning herself into a mini table to told up my book and at times laptop for note taking. I sip away at the coffee with every flipped page. I come to the end of a chapter as my coffee cup empties. It is time to break the hard news to my dog that it’s time to get up. She’s not too devastated as her next moves are to the food bowl, it now truly is breakfast time. The dogs get their food, and I make a right turn to the gym. Music contingent on my mood, regardless it’s something to ensure of waking me up as I begin to move my body to wake up which ever muscle group is today’s focus. There are days the music vibes with me and others, I’m searching through 3-4 stations each between Pandora or Spotify. If this does not work, I typically fall back to Youtube to provide some form of external motivation.

My body feeling more energy as I move, some days lifting heavy to match high energy other days I choose to go light with resistance to “burn out the muscle”.

Regardless, there is never a regret that I choose to perform a workout.

Back to my journal: Water _X_ Reading_X_ Workout _X_ Energy 7/10_ Hours sleep:_7 Hours 36 min__

It’s now 5:45AM where I, like most now scramble to get ready for work. Only I am coming from a series of accomplishments to fuel my future self’s physical health, cognitive health, and psychological health.

It gets easier, not waking up and rolling out of bed. But the affirmation that the results are worth it.

It gets easier to learn from my reading as I interact with 16-30 people in a day and I share knowledge of something I have learned. It gets easier as I get the chance to provide advice in forms of inspiration and direction that I learn and get to share.

It gets easier after I learned how to best interact with a variety of individuals of all different cultures, socioeconomic status, and past life experiences, in turn making a difference in their lives for the better. It gets easier as I see my aesthetics maintained to a healthy states physiologically and psychologically. It gets easier as I have more consistent energy as the body becomes more efficient at performing physical activities.

It gets easier when you learn more about yourself and how to focus on mindfulness. It gets easier when you have clarity. When your brain appears less scattered from reacting to your day to controlling your day.

It’s not always easy to do the hard and challenging things. Things get easier when you see and believe in the results that doing those hard and challenging things can provide for your personal growth.
