Be a Hero: Join the Wish-A-Mile Fundraiser and Support Make-A-Wish Foundation

WAM 2019

In a world filled with challenges, it often feels like we need heroes now more than ever. But what if the hero we’re searching for is closer than we think—right in the mirror? When you take a moment to reflect, you’ll see more than your own image; you’ll see the influence of countless individuals who’ve shaped your journey.

Over the past 30 years, I’ve reflected on the catalysts in my life—those people who have inspired me to grow and become better. Who are your catalysts? Who has helped shape the best version of you? Think about their traits and how they’ve impacted your life. By embracing these traits, you can become someone else’s hero.

What Makes a Hero?

According to Google Dictionary, a hero is “a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities.” While we may not always see ourselves as courageous or extraordinary, small, intentional actions can make us someone else’s hero.

How to Be a Hero in Everyday Life

  • Start with your best self. Choose to show up every day with positivity and purpose.
  • Lead by example. Help others improve their health, relationships, or mindset by demonstrating what’s possible.
  • Give selflessly. Act with kindness and generosity without expecting anything in return.
  • Take responsibility. Your actions and attitude have the power to brighten someone’s day, often without you even realizing it.

Inspired by Courage: My Motivation to Ride 300 Miles

The young girl in the photo above placed a medal around my neck, not knowing she would inspire me to ride 300 miles to raise funds for Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan. These brave children face unimaginable challenges every day, yet they share their stories with courage and hope. They inspire not only other children but also people like me to push beyond limits.

For me, these children are the true heroes. They remind us of the strength we all carry and the difference we can make.

Take the Hero Challenge

Today, I challenge you to:

  • Be intentional. Seek optimism and take responsibility for your actions and attitude.
  • Help someone. Even a small act of kindness can change someone’s day—or life.
  • Reflect on your own catalysts. Who has inspired you, and how can you pay it forward?

You don’t need a cape to be a hero. Join me in supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation through the Wish-A-Mile fundraiser, and together, we can bring hope and joy to children battling terminal illnesses.

Here’s to making today amazing—for yourself and for others!
