The Power of Remembering Your Why

England Fitness

Have you ever set a goal, only to lose track of it as life got busy? Without a clear “why” and consistent reminders, it’s easy to let days, weeks, and even months pass without making real progress.

Take a Moment to Reflect

Think about your personal goals—both past and present. What goals have you set for yourself? Have you achieved them, or have some been left unfinished? If so, what held you back?

One of the most effective ways to stay on track is writing your goals down. Not just once, but somewhere you’ll see them daily. Life doesn’t come with a pause button, and without frequent reminders, it’s easy to lose momentum.

But writing your goals isn’t enough—you also need to know why they matter to you. Your “why” is the driving force that keeps you moving forward, even when things get tough.

Turning a Dream Into Reality: My Fitness Competition Story

In 2013, I set a goal to compete in a Men’s Fitness Model Competition—something I had never done before. At first, it was just an idea. But I knew that if I didn’t create a plan and commit, it would never happen.

I started by:
Writing my goal down—Compete in a Men’s Physique event.
Setting a deadline—Find a local competition and give myself enough time to prepare.
Doing the research—How long would it take? What did I need to change in my diet and training?
Creating a structured plan—I mapped out my workouts, nutrition, and progress tracking.
Holding myself accountable—I had a countdown leading up to the event and a support system of friends, clients, and family.

With a full-time job, college courses, and a demanding schedule, it wasn’t easy. There were times I felt overwhelmed. But every single day, I reminded myself why I started. I wasn’t just chasing a trophy—I was proving to myself that I could commit, follow through, and achieve something that once felt impossible.

When I finally stepped on stage, I didn’t just show up—I took first place. But the real success wasn’t the trophy—it was the journey, the discipline, and the growth that came from seeing my goal through.

What’s Your Next Goal?

Now, I challenge you to do the same.

1️⃣ Write your goal down.
2️⃣ Next to it, write your “why.”
3️⃣ Keep it somewhere visible and ask yourself daily: “What am I going to do today to reach this goal?”
4️⃣ Hold yourself accountable and never stop growing.

You are capable of more than you think—so take action, stay committed, and make it happen.

I now hope to challenge you to take on your next goal. Write it down and next to that, why you want to accomplish that goal. Keep it somewhere you can read it daily and ask yourself “What am I going to do today, to reach my goals”. Hold yourself accountable and never stop growing.
