The Weekly Upgrade #3

Reading, Writing, Learning, Teaching, Coaching, Living. These are all parts of a daily, weekly, monthly, annual process for growth. It is amazing how much information changes situations. I have dedicated my habitual life to learning many new things and developing into a version of my ideal self. If interested in learning with me, continue to check in and I would love to encourage discussion or questions on the subject of information shared!

Book that I’m about to finish: The Magic of Thinking Big by David Schwartz

This will be a book that I will definitely read again within the year 2021. I started taking notes on most books that I read for reference, however this one I choose to read just before going to sleep at night. I really enjoy the layout of the book and how Dr. Schwartz discusses requiring a success mindset. If you believe you can accomplish tasks or goals over the belief mindset that something is too difficult or “impossible”, your results will replicate that belief. The “impossible” has been accomplished all throughout history of humanity. It is easy to make up excuses when taking action can seem intimidating. This is just another barrier to overcome to achieve success in any goal. Self talk and positive visioning can be very impactful and can be used to overcome the fear of “what could happen”. As we typically imagine/vision the worst possible thoughts, most of these are not realistic and definitely unlikely, your pessimism will not serve you well. Once overcoming your mental barriers, he discusses getting into taking action and pursuing goals relentlessly through taking extreme responsibility for your life. A simple way of action is to exceed expectations and continue to do more, and give more before receiving more.

Podcast I have enjoyed: The Stacking Benjamins Show: How to surround yourself with good people

This is a podcast I have subscribed to for quite some time. They discuss that fact that you live the life influenced by your five closest friends, even if you do not think of this. How it is important to seek those whom have similar goals or those who have accomplished those goals you aspire to achieve. If you or a friend/family member will be attending college this too has great advice on scholarships. More than the typical website search for tips, tricks, and lotteries. https://www.stackingbenjamins.com/

Event I enjoyed:

It has been quite some time since I have last ran outside with my dog London. She definitely enjoys running and even sustained a 7mph pace. Let’s be real, if anything I was trying to keep up with her! We did 3.35 miles, which definitely was no PR but it felt great to get out and run despite the below freezing temperature.

I also had to share my experience at Plymouth’s Easts & Sweets. Waiting for a “craft shake” I read about George H.W. Bush speaking in front of this building in 1992 as his “Final Goodbyes”, which I found interesting. https://www.eatsandsweetsplymouth.com/

Questions and Actions:

When is the last time you have taken a walk or run with a friend, spouse, pet, or anyone else willing to join you? Perhaps invite a friend for a walk, jog, bike. (of course within reason with COVID restrictions)

If walking does not sound too tempting, how about a video call with coffee, tea, or water just to reconnect. It’s something perhaps we could all benefit from.

My changed habits include:

1.) I continue to change what I write about in daily journaling to fit the theme of what works best for me. It allows me to now understand how people can get so much done in just one day. I transitioned from morning yoga to a 10 minute ab routine as I have increased the length of my reading ( don’t worry I still workout at another time of the day).

2.) Keeping a notepad or sticky note near me at all times to write down something I would like to learn more about, follow up with, or a task that I would like to complete. Without writing it down and believing we will remember it later that day or later that week, is statistically setting yourself up to forget.

I will leave you with a quote that I share with physical therapy my e-mail signature: ” All thoughts have been emotionalized and mixed with faith begin to translate themselves into their physical equivalent or counterpart.” – Napoleon Hill

Thank you for reading! Please share if this is something you have found any of this information interesting, entertaining, or useful. Have a remarkable day!

  1. Dylan you are such a inspiration to me I have followed your blogs here and there over the years and they are what motivated me to press forward when I was going through my physical therapy with my grade 3 spondylolisthesis and wanted to give up so many times. So thank you for your motivation. I just wanted to let you know that I do read your motivational messages.
