Weekly Upgrade: Let’s Set Goals

Welcome! As most of you are familiar, I continue to challenge myself in many ways to become a better version of myself. In turn I hope to inspire, educate, and guide others to do the same.

I listen to variety of podcasts, information based youtube videos , reading books and articles, as well as build networking to learn from others. This blog is where I get to share small bits and pieces of what I learned, found interesting, and feel they are ideas worth sharing.

House Procurement: My wife and I are in the process of hopefully getting a closing date soon on a second house. I was reminded recently how lengthy, tedious, and inconvenient this process can be. I look forward to the closing date to being a new journey of repairs, in order to provide rental living to a family in need of rental housing in an ideal neighborhood and school district. As we began this process I had forgotten until reconnecting with some old friends of mine that they have knowledge, experience, and resources that would be helpful with this oncoming challenge of repairing and managing properties. Prior to this year, I always waited for “the right time”, as I have realized like anything. There is no magical right time to take action towards our goals. We can easily find reasons to procrastinate and excuses to support our fear of action.

Quote: “Don’t wait. The time will never be just right. Start where you stand, and work whatever tools you may have at your command and better tools will be found as you go along.” – Napoleon Hill

This was an idea of action since I was in high school, now 15 years later after first reading “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki, followed by several other books only to require the final push from my oldest brother as he along side me plans to provide rental housing for those uninterested or unable to purchase a home. Along with encouragement of my mastermind group.

Mastermind Goals: I meet weekly with a mastermind group where we discuss a blend of three goals. Fitness and health, business, and networking goals. We follow up with each other to discuss and successes, challenges, and learning experiences. It provides accountability, direction, and advice as we set our weekly goals that ultimately direct us towards our quarterly goals. It amazes me how seemingly behind I feel compared to the other two individuals in my group in the financial and investment realm. That being said, It’s great to be apart of a group where I can learn and give my own insight on issues they might have.

Setting Goals: Although it is great to set new goals for example: New years resolutions, we look at the end result without thinking of the daily tasks required to achieve goals like financial independence, 10% body fat, gain 10 pounds of muscle, run the marathon, build your network, squat or deadlift heavier weight or even being able to pick up, carry and play with our children or grand children. Where the daily and weekly tasks are the essential ingredients to success in those goals. You may have to workout 4 to 5 times per week in order to see monthly results, that in turn lead to yearly goal achievements. The same goes for finances, you must save $100 per week into an investment account to achieve $400 per typical month before becoming a millionaire. If you do not start with the day to day savings, investing, workouts, networking, you cannot achieve the annual goals of obtaining the ideal financial status, physical status, or networking status you may strive to have. Thus, it is much more important to think about and work on daily tasks towards our weekly goals before worrying about our quarterly goals that lead us towards our annual goals.

Let’s Work Together: This can typically work better then you spend 5 minutes to reflect on what are things you enjoy doing, who are the people you enjoy spending time with, what family members or friends would you like to spend more time with? What habits would you like to have that replaces some of your current habits? What would a person with your ideal habits do on a daily basis? Once you have this down, think of who those ideal individuals are that can help you move closer to your goals. See what you can do to help them in return as you can work together to accomplishing similar goals easier.

When I did this visualization I thought of the time spent with family, friends, my dog(s), biking, running, strength training, enjoying outdoors, volunteering more for nonprofits, even humored the idea of providing generational wealth for my family as well as the possibly building a housing community for those in need ( a non profit mini house neighborhood for the homeless). This is where I found my motivating “why“. The “what” is in there as well. I would need to be active and healthy to enjoy the ability to bike, run, and lift, as it helps me boost my physical and psychological health not only now but for the future if I have the opportunity to live into geriatric age. The financial independence allows me to volunteer more and give back more, as I can endure that my living expenses are covered financially. I can also then work towards providing housing for others in need that could lead towards the non-profit housing neighborhood you read about in this paragraph. The “when” is in every day we wake up. We are all given 24 hours in a day, 168 hours in a week, 12 months in a year. No one person can have more than these simple timeline facts. However, having an idea of where you would like to go and the motivation of why you want to go there is a great way to start your journey to succeeding your written and often referred back to goals.

Question: Think about who could benefit from this, anyone whom has potential to set goals and strive for personal improvement. Perhaps consider if you would be willing to work together on shared interests and goals.

Action: Share this with those individuals whom crossed your mind in the “question” along with acting on your own 5 minute reflection. Followed by writing down a quarterly goal, then work backwards into weekly goals that you refer back to at least once a week.

I just happened to come across this as I was researching the idea. It’s awesome to see someone out there already doing something like this! I love it!
