At work recently, someone pulled the fire alarm in the large medical building I was working in. Thus, we had to navigate all patients down three flights of stairs, out to a parking lot where it was raining. We waited for the fire department to arrive, then for them to clear the building before going back in. During the waiting process, I had an 82 year old patient whom requested she just leave. The challenge was that her car was not only on the other side of the building but we also have to walk up a steep grade incline and around the building to get to her vehicle, followed by finding the fire truck pulling in directly behind her vehicle. Fortunately there was one fire department employee who pulled in as we got to her car. I cleared the okay that we move her vehicle, the guy gave me a nod of affirmation, then proceeded to get out of his department pickup truck and hopped into the firetruck and moved it forward. I have only intended on helping guide her vehicle ensuring it did not his anyone or anything, but appreciated the extra steps this guy had taken to help out the situation in addition to probably keeping his trucks safe and ensuring everyone outside too were safe.
A restaurant I had the opportunity to try and enjoyed: Seva
An Ann Arbor and Detroit based vegetarian friendly restaurant. Where they not only had some of the best YAM fried I’ve had but actually one of the better Ruben’s I have eaten (it was a tempeh ruben sandwich). This is only place I look forward to going back to in the future.
Book I’ve completed: I read this while also listening to the audiobook Extreme Ownership

Although I could have easily taken more than 5 pages of notes on this book with standout concepts, here is an oversimplified version of what the book explains in far better words than I could ever share:
- A good leader:
- Confident not cocky
- Courageous but not foolhardy
- Competitive but a gracious loser
- Attentive to detail but not obsessed with them.
- Strong but have endurance
- Leader must be a follower
- Humble not passive
- Aggressive not overbearing
- Quiet not silent
- Calm but not robotics logical but not devoid of emotion.
- Close with the team but not so close one takes priority of the team.
- Able to execute extreme ownership while exercising decentralized command
This is yet another book I would like to make a point to at least listen to once a year as frequent reminders of concepts can help dramatically to stay on course.
Podcast I’m enjoying: Ask A Cycling Coach
I have made a point to listen to the science of performance with blood flow restriction along with protocols for this modality. Body temperature control in association with performance, mental visioning in association with physical performance. As well as nutrition in association with performance thus far. Although it is very research and data driven, I appreciate this approach as I want to mitigate waste of time and energy with panacea approaches to improvement.
Experience I have enjoyed: Warm Weekend Ride
Riding just over 60 miles over the weekend to take full advantage of the brief warmth we got here in Michigan. although my wife’s bike got a flat followed by her GRX crank breaking, it was a good ride otherwise.

- It’s not until I can step back and think to myself, what could I have done differently? What could I have said differently? Why would others act, say, and do things to seemingly defy my request. The hard think is to check your own emotional response and ago and learn to assume good in others.
- Question: What situation did you blame someone else for an occurrence?
- Action: Give thought as to what you could do differently in the future to better facility a more ideal outcome.
