3-4 Minute Read Time:

“This is going to change your life.”

Those were the last words my brother told me before I opened a book that reshaped the way I start every day—and the results have been life-changing ever since.

Morning Routines for a Healthier, More Productive Life

When the world shut down during the pandemic, I faced the same uncertainty many others did. For the first time, I wondered if my career and stability might disappear overnight. That was when I received a simple book in the mail, with a note from my brother: “This is going to change your life.”

He was right. Not because it was a miracle, but because it gave me a set of actionable steps that anyone can follow. These steps form the foundation of Hal Elrod’s Miracle Morning, an approach known as SAVERS.

Let’s break them down into practical, repeatable habits you can implement right away.

Step 1: Silence

Barrier: “I don’t have time to sit quietly—I need to get moving.”

Silence isn’t about wasting time; it’s about creating space to think, reflect, and reset. Whether it’s gratitude, prayer, or simply clearing your head, silence helps you start your day with clarity instead of chaos.

Strategies to Try:

  • Take 3–5 minutes in the morning to sit without distractions.
  • Use this time for reflection, gratitude, or a short walk without music.
  • If meditation feels uncomfortable, that’s okay—it’s supposed to challenge your comfort zone.

Take Away: Silence creates mental clarity.
Take Away: It helps you process lessons from yesterday.
Take Away: It prepares you for a more focused day.

Start with just two minutes of silence, then build up. Consistency matters more than duration.

Step 2: Affirmations

Barrier: “I feel silly saying positive things to myself—it doesn’t feel real.”

Your inner dialogue shapes your reality. Affirmations redirect negative self-talk and retrain your brain to focus on growth. The more you practice, the more natural it becomes.

Strategies to Try:

  • Write down 3 affirmations and repeat them each morning.
  • Flip negative thoughts into positive statements.
  • Keep affirmations specific, personal, and present-tense.

Take Away: Affirmations train your brain to focus on possibility.
Take Away: They boost confidence and self-worth.
Take Away: They shift your mindset toward growth.

Start with simple, powerful statements: I am strong. I am capable. I am worthy.

Step 3: Visioning

Barrier: “I don’t know what my future looks like, so why bother writing it down?”

A vision gives you direction, even if you don’t know all the steps yet. When you define what you want, your brain begins to work toward it—consciously and unconsciously.

Strategies to Try:

  • Write out what your life looks like in 1, 3, and 5 years.
  • Get specific: vacations, career, family, income.
  • Revisit your vision often to track progress and refine it.

Take Away: Visioning pulls you forward when motivation is low.
Take Away: It forces you to stretch and grow.
Take Away: It reduces guilt about prioritizing your goals.

Pro Tip: Don’t worry about the “how.” Start with the “what” and let the details follow.

Step 4: Exercise

Barrier: “I don’t have energy in the morning—I’ll work out later.”

It Matters: Movement wakes up your body and your brain. Even a short burst of activity boosts circulation, energy, and focus for hours.

Strategies to Try:

  • Commit to 10–20 minutes of exercise in the morning.
  • Mix cardio with strength training for variety.
  • Prep your workout clothes the night before to reduce friction.

Take Away: Exercise increases energy for 4–6 hours.
Take Away: It builds confidence and accountability.
Take Away: It makes tackling hard tasks easier.

Pro Tip: Don’t aim for perfection—aim for movement. Some days it’s a workout, some days it’s a walk. Both count.

Step 5: Reading

Barrier: “I don’t have time to read in the morning.”

It Matters: Reading isn’t about cramming in a novel—it’s about fueling your brain with ideas that move you forward. Even 10 minutes of the right material can shift your perspective.

Strategies to Try:

  • Choose books on mindset, health, or personal growth.
  • Keep a book or article ready at your bedside.
  • Take notes as you read to lock in the lessons.

Take Away: Reading fuels learning and growth.
Take Away: It shifts your focus toward solutions, not problems.
Take Away: It provides tools to overcome barriers.

Pro Tip: Replace morning scrolling with 10 pages of a book—you’ll be surprised how quickly your library (and your mindset) grows.

Step 6: Scribing (Journaling)

Barrier: “I never know what to write—it feels awkward.”

Journaling organizes your thoughts, tracks your progress, and keeps you accountable. It’s not about writing perfectly—it’s about clarity and direction.

Strategies to Try:

  • Write down your 3 biggest tasks for the day.
  • Note challenges and how you’ll overcome them.
  • Record wins, lessons, or quotes that inspire you.

Take Away: Journaling creates structure and focus.
Take Away: It reduces stress and overwhelm.
Take Away: It documents your growth over time.

Use prompts: What am I grateful for today? What’s my biggest priority? What did I learn yesterday?

Success doesn’t happen by chance—it happens by choice. The six steps of SAVERS—Silence, Affirmations, Visioning, Exercise, Reading, and Scribing—give you a clear, repeatable framework to start every day with purpose.

When you own your mornings, you begin to own your life.
