Listen Here (The Practial Edge)
Have you ever found yourself drifting through the days—busy but not fulfilled? You’re not alone.
The truth is:
You either have a mission, or you have misery.
Without purpose, we drift. And drifting leads to doubt, depression, and delay.
So if you’re feeling stuck, lost, or just low on confidence, I want to walk you through how to start changing that—starting today.
This isn’t about overnight transformation.
It’s about building self-respect, earning confidence, and creating conviction through consistent reps—mentally, physically, and emotionally.
“I Didn’t Know If It Would Work…”
I recently had a conversation with one of my online coaching clients. She came to me wanting to lose some body fat, build muscle, and just feel good in her skin again.
She told me something that really hit home:
“It took me a whole year to finally sign up for coaching…”
When I asked why, her answer wasn’t what you might think.
She wasn’t lazy. She wasn’t unmotivated.
She was busy. She had graduated college, bought a house, and was building a career. Somewhere in the chaos, her health slipped—and so did her confidence.
She said, “I didn’t want to commit to something and put in hours each week when I wasn’t sure if it would work.”
Sound familiar?
Confidence Starts with Accountability
What we uncovered together was that her real obstacle wasn’t time or effort.
It was confidence and conviction. The kind that comes from personal accountability.
Not just a coach checking in—but her showing up for herself.
We created a plan. We stripped out what wasn’t working and built it back with small, consistent actions she could actually stick to.
And here’s what happened next:
- She started stacking small wins.
- She stopped waiting for motivation.
- She started relying on momentum.
That momentum created self-trust. That self-trust turned into confidence.
And that confidence? It became conviction.
“If He Says He’ll Do It—He Does It”
That story reminded me of something a friend of mine—Alex Shelly (you might know him from the Motor City Machine Guns)—once said about me:
“Dylan’s the kind of guy, when he says he’s going to do something, he’s going to do it.”
It stuck with me. Not just as a compliment, but as a standard.
I don’t just want to say I’ll do things—I want to earn the right to be trusted by doing them.
And to be honest, that standard matters most at home. My wife has been through a lot of ventures with me: opening a fitness studio, flipping properties, endurance races, earning multiple degrees. She’s seen it all.
But I never expected her to just support it all blindly.
I had to earn her support by being consistent, by following through, and by living the kind of life that deserves respect.
That’s how you build conviction. Not from hype, but from habit.
It’s Not Just About You Anymore
The more consistent I became, the more people began to rely on me. And honestly? That’s what helped inspire me…
It’s no longer I want to do this.
It’s I have to do this—because people are counting on me.
And most importantly… I can count on me.
That’s what I want for you too.
Don’t Know Where to Start? Start Here.
A lot of people tell me, “I just don’t know where to begin.”
That’s totally normal. And here’s where I always start:
Don’t look inward for passion—look outward for people to help.
I didn’t find my purpose by staring at a vision board. I found it by serving others.
Back in 2011, I became a personal trainer and started helping people with everything from joint pain to weight loss. Some of my clients were training for marathons. Others just wanted to play with their kids without pain.
That’s when something clicked:
“When people rely on you, that becomes part of your purpose.”
Build Your Confidence. Discover Your Mission. Start Today.
Before you go, here are 4 practical prompts to help you move forward—with purpose, confidence, and conviction.
These only work if you slow down long enough to hear your own thoughts. Give yourself that time. It matters.
What is your mission right now?
Ask yourself: What am I aiming at?
If nothing comes to mind, start here:
- Who do I want to help?
- What problem excites me?
- What do I want my life to look like—and why?
Action: Write down one clear mission for the next 30 days.
Are you relying on motivation or momentum?
Think back: The last time you followed through…
Was it because you were inspired? Or because you were disciplined?
Action: Choose one small habit this week you’ll commit to daily—even if it’s just 5 minutes. Let momentum build trust.
What’s one small win you can stack today?
Confidence comes from action. Don’t wait to “feel ready.”
Action: Do one thing today—work out, take a walk, prep a meal, say no to something draining. Then do it again tomorrow.
Who’s relying on you—and how can you show up better?
Think of your spouse, kids, friends, clients, or even your future self.
How do you want to show up for them?
Action: Write down 3 people who count on you. Then list one way you’ll serve each of them this week.
You don’t build confidence by thinking about it.
You build it by doing.
Small wins. Consistent actions. Clear intentions. That’s how conviction is created.
And once you have conviction—everything changes.
If this resonated, save it, share it, and revisit it as many times as you need.
Your best life doesn’t start tomorrow. It starts with the next right step—today.
Let’s build a life that earns the respect you want.
One rep at a time.
