As we continue to explore the experiences of life, it is inevitable that we will hit challenges along the way. This can derail us from our plan, from our routine, from our vision of how we anticipated our day(s) to go. If this happens, know that you’re not alone.
Welcome back to another weekly upgrade where we explore learning:
There are five main aspects of personal health that I’d like to touch on: physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and intellectual.

- Physical: I wanted to touch on this topic first as it is my most credentialed field of study.
- We all age, this is inevitable as long as we are alive. As we age, some of our priorities change from “play” as running, climbing, jumping, sports, to spending more time with friends and family, to working to provide for our selves and perhaps family. This simply becomes our priority.
- A common routine is: Wake up, get ready for work, maybe eat breakfast or grab something that is quick and easy neglecting the nutrient density. Work at a job for bulk of the waking day, and by the time we get home it’s so much easier mentally at that point to “check out” or even take care of other typical household chores like cooking and cleaning. Typically followed by whatever night time routine exists, whether that be television, computer/ phone time, perhaps even reading. This concludes the typical day with the bulk of it working and performing essential survival and nesting tasks without progression of physical, and/or mental health.
- Leaving no time for “play”, or physical activity, our body atrophies (weakens), our energy plummets as our body has no need to consistently sustain a physically active body when physical activity is not a frequent part of a routine. The affects are much more than the typical “poor health” blanket but affects capabilities of traveling, lifting children or interacting with grandchildren, caring for a friend or family member, even caring for our own self adequately.
- Within reason, we simply cannot choose how old we will live to be, but we do have control over what we prioritize in our life. As we age, the more active individuals tend to show higher capabilities of function, healthier mindset, and tend do be able to take advantage of the “retirement years”. Thus, long term investing in physical health can pay dividends of life experiences for decades to follow.
- I recall seeing one of my favorite commercials that I’d like to share with you below. I work with literally hundreds of individuals that fit this narrative, I cannot express how grateful I am to hear success stories like the one below in real life experiences.
.
Not everyone around us will understand our motivations, our goals, or our drive. Not everyone will share those same particular goals either. This is where self reflection comes to be so important. What future functional and physical health would you prefer? Some individuals are content with being couch and bed bound with a goal of tolerating watching television, while others want to go on walks, bike rides, and interact with their grandchildren as they age. The most important step that can be taken next is putting a plan in place to succeed at your personal goal.

Remember in your journey: “Don’t Let The Perfect Be The Enemy Of The Good.” It’s consistency that’s the key.
Challenge: Find one physical activity you would actually enjoy and find a way to commit to doing that activity just three times a week. If you miss one week, you’re not set back. Continue the journey into the next week. There is still 51 weeks in the calendar year to execute towards success. Do not sacrifice good results trying to attain perfect.
