By Dylan J. England | Health, Fitness & Leadership Coach
This week, I want to share a personal story — not for applause, but to light a fire within you.
A few years ago, I took on the Crusher EX, a brutal 130-mile “gravel” (mountain biking) adventure through Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. I was the slowest in my group, faced equipment failures, deep sand, knee-deep water crossings, and long stretches of hike-a-bike terrain. It pushed me beyond what I thought I was capable of. Prior to that I’ve ran 100 mile ultramarathons in one bout, took 1st place in a men’s physique competition, and since then ridden 200 miles in a single day. I continue to seek new challenges to overcome and do the things I once said I would never do…
Why’d I do it? Because I’ve learned that the biggest limit we face is the one we set in our own minds.
This event taught me a lesson I first told a client years ago:
“It’s amazing what the human body can accomplish — you just might surprise yourself.”
Here’s the hard truth:
Most people never test their potential because fear of failure keeps them frozen. They stay in the comfort zone. But if you’ve ever told yourself, “I can’t,” without actually trying, then you’ve already decided to lose.
Weekly Focus: Prove Yourself to Yourself
Challenge for the Week:
Pick one thing you’ve been avoiding because it seems too hard, too time-consuming, or too uncomfortable.
It might be:
-
Prepping all your meals for the week.
-
Getting 8 hours of sleep each night.
-
Logging every workout without excuses.
-
Saying “no” to added sugar all week.
-
Hitting a personal record (PR) in your workouts.
Pick one. Write it down. Then execute with intention.
Actionable Steps:
-
Identify your comfort zone — and the one action that sits just outside it.
-
Schedule it like a meeting. Treat it as non-negotiable.
-
Track your follow-through — either in your journal, app, or messaging me.
-
Reflect on how it felt to push yourself — even just a little further than usual.
-
Repeat next week with a new challenge.
You’re not here just to check boxes. You’re here to become stronger, more capable, and more confident than ever before — physically and mentally.
Don’t wait to be ready. Get uncomfortable. Surprise yourself.
You’re more capable than you think.
